TESDA DIRECTOR GENETAL SECRETARY ISIDRO S. LAPEÑA,PhD. CSEE VISITS

After the conduct of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) on the PRLEC programs at Brgy. Marilog, Marilog District, Davao City, TESDA Director General Secretary Isidro S. Lapena, PhD. CSEE, together with Deputy Director General Lina Sarmiento, Deputy Director General Juliet Orozco, Regional Director TESDA XI Engr. Lorenzo G. Macapili, Davao City/Sur Provincial Director Adonis F. Culas, WNAS VSA II Engr. Melanie M. Domingo, MVE, Region XI Administrators and staff visits Wangan National Agricultural School on January 29, 2022.

During the visits a planning meeting took place on the establishment of small scale poultry facility for turkey production through artificial insemination in Wangan National Agricultural School with the lead of Senior TESDA Specialist Engr. Ricky Dabalos. WNAS will be the model School in replicating the technology learned from Israel through Agro-Studies internships.

Wangan National Agricultural School will be a model School in replicating the Israel technologies on Turkey Production.

· Another new technology from Israel will be implemented and be cascaded throughout the Mindanao that will contribute to economic development.

WNAS BRIEF HISTORY

The School started in June 1976 as Wangan Barangay High School through the effort of the elementary principal later Eriberto O. Macasa and massive support of the people in the community and nearby barangays. There were only three (3) teachers at that time whose salary was shouldered by the barangay council and PTA. The secondary education was successfully implemented until a bill passed in the defunct Batasang Pambansa last May 4, 1982, the Batas Pambansa blg. 138 (sponsored by honorable assemblywoman Felicidad Santos) an act converting Wangan Barangay High School into an Agricultural Education Institution namely Wangan National Agricultural School. WNAS continue to operate secondary education but when Republic Act No. 7796 (TESDA LAW) has been approved, it changes the operation of the school. With that act, dual education program occurs in WNAS (secondary and post secondary education.).

Post-Secondary Education Program started last June 1998 under the supervision of TESDA (Technical Education and Skills Development Authority) while secondary education is still under the supervision of DECS (Department of Education, Culture and Sports). WNAS is the only TESDA Supervised Government school in Agricultural Technology speciliazing Cut Flower Production. With the effort of the Vocational School Administrator Mr. Jesus A. Adriasola there were already five (5) courses offered on its second year of operation duly UPTRAS registered. A 2-year course in Agricultural Mechanics, Animal Production Technology, Food Processing Technology and Floriculture Technology. Upon retirement of Mr. Jesus A. Adriasola, WNAS was administered by Mr. Rodolfo A. Odoya coming from PTC Davao. It was at his administration that Income Generating Project was strengthened and the curriculum is competency-based. Aside from those courses offered, it also conducted Community Extension Programs like Community-Based Training and Entrepreneurship Development (CBTED) and Community Based Training Program (CBTP) to the Community of Wangan and nearby barangays.

At present, the school is on Competency-Based-Training mode of delivery wherein 14 registered TR-based qualification and 14 Assessments Centers. Mr. Felipe C. Hiquial, Jr. is now the current Vocational School Administrator of this institution.
