[MARCH 29, 2021] Hon. Alberto T. Ungab, City Councilor of Davao City’s 3rd District and former House of Representative of the same district, led the distribution of toolkits for the three (3) qualifications under the Special Training for Employment Program (STEP) funded by the 3rd District Congressional Office. Vocational School Administrator Felipe C. Hiquial Jr., Administrative Officer IV Alben R. Aguio, and trainers Erma S. Nadera (Cake Making) and Millie B. Lacano (Process Food by Sugar Concentration) represented TESDA-WNAS during the activity.
Seventy scholars benefitted from the program and feeling relieved that they can finally practice what they have learned from the skills training and earn extra income, especially this time of the pandemic.
The Animal Production (Swine) NC II was conducted in Brgy. Tacunan and joined by twenty-five scholars. All women had taken part in two qualifications conducted in Brgy. Calinan, both are Certificate of Competency (COC) only. Twenty-five scholars participated in Cake Making leading to Bread and Pastry Production NC II while twenty scholars in Process Food by Sugar Concentration leading to Food Processing NC II. All three qualifications were conducted in 2019.
The very dynamic City Councilor Hon. Alberto T. Ungab expressed his congratulations to all the graduates. He hoped everyone is happy to receive their toolkits and they will use the equipment for their livelihood.
Mr. Hiquial added that TESDA-WNAS will continue to become instrumental in providing skills training in the communities. "We will take advantage of this COVID time to focus on community-based training to make people’s time more effective because they will learn something new."
Hon. Elvira Renoy, Barangay Councilor in Brgy. Tacunan assisted the distribution of swine toolkits to her constituents. She was pleased for the partnership with the institution and bringing skills training in their area, more so to Hon. Alberto T. Ungab for backing it.
Meanwhile, Brgy. Captain of Calinan Hon. Ursicio Ungab said that he is always supportive of TESDA programs, and thankful for the opportunities brought to his community through the office of the former congressional representative. Further, the members of his women’s sector have more reasons to celebrate during this women’s month because they will receive their kits.
One participant confessed how grateful she was to accept the toolkits to help her business. She revealed that the delivery of toolkits was timely since she has a cake order. The oven will surely help her bake the best cake! / SMAC Focal
